The problem we are solving
There is a need for a new solution to solve challenges of Veterans unemployment and skills needed by the private sector employers.
Situation
- According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, job openings hit an all time high of nearly 11M in July 2021
- However, in September 2021, there were still 84M unemployed people in the US
- In 2020, 18.5 million men and women were veterans, and 581,000 were unemployed
- There is a mismatch between people looking for work and organizations looking to hire people
- Additionally, there are efforts in the private sector underway to drive additional recruiting for diverse, minority or veteran candidates
Complication
The mismatch between unemployment and open jobs is driven by several factors:
Industry Industries that now have jobs do not have enough prior workers, for example, Business Services, Leisure and Hospitality, etc.
Skills Skills needed by the newer jobs are not available, for example in technology
Geography Jobs are not available in the same geography or worker have preferences/constraints for relocation
Preferences Many workers who lost jobs during the pandemic have indicated they don’t want to return. In recent months, health-care workers and educators have quit their jobs at the highest rate on record, stretching back to 2002, Labor Department data show
Automation Automation of the resume search and match process – can be overly and unfairly selective
How we help solve this challenge
Our aim is to:
Focus on the individuals (not the resumes), identify their skill sets and match them with jobs
Focus on Veterans and other underpresented individuals which is a focus for organizations, and where we know that mismatch complications will not pose an issue (eg. identify individuals whose personal situations and preferences align with the job needs)
Set up partnerships with hiring organizations to connect right candidates with the right jobs
Create and leverage skill building contents and professional aptitude tests to upskill candidates and ensure certification
Strategically target based on industry needs and candidate skills (eg. Military Medic as a nurse)
